Out with Sprout Goes to the Strategic Air and Space Museum
My little family and I recently visited the Strategic Air & Space Museum as part of a "mini vacation" to Mahoney State Park. The weather was cold and the museum seemed like the best option to kill some time and wear out the kids.
In the past, I didn't think traveling the 30 minutes to Ashland would be worth the trip with young kids like mine. I felt safer keeping to the familiarity of the Children's Museum and its kid-proof walls. I'm so glad our family trip knocked me out of my comfort zone. My kids and I had been missing out on such a great venue!
The SASM has so much to offer families. Yes, the war history buff will be in heaven in this museum, but so will your kids!
We moseyed in on a Thursday afternoon and were given the rare opportunity of having the plane hangars almost all to ourselves. Something about the expansive spaces and enormous planes was awe inspiring. My kids were awestruck for approximately 1.3 seconds and then spent the rest of their time exploring inside the planes.
After completing our tour of the different hangars, we tried out the "Math Alive" exhibit that was featured at the time. We spent at least an hour playing educational games and getting hands-on with various math-focused activities. If it were up to them, my kids would’ve stayed there all day. The Math Alive exhibit has since moved on, but SASM is now hosting their annual "60 Days of Science" event through the end of April. They have a full calendar of science-related activities & attractions. I'm excited to be taking my kids back to check it out this week!
Since starting Out with Sprout, I've also learned about their many classes and camps. It's easy to see that SASM has a hard working team that is passionate about sharing their love and knowledge of planes, history, science, math, and space.
I'm excited to add this venue to the list of places we'll be visiting often!
Out with Sprout Membership Month!
During the month of April, Out with Sprout has teamed up with four great Omaha family venues to share more about them and their offerings for families. Each venue has generously donated a free family membership to be given away in our Membership Month promotion.
About Rachel Santo
Rachel grew up, met her husband and fell in love in Omaha. Now with a family of her own, she and her husband enjoy getting out and experiencing Omaha in a whole new way; with their kids. The Santo crew consists of Lyla, Wesley, Levi and a new little one arriving in April! As a homeschool family, their flexible schedule allows them to explore Omaha and its offerings throughout the day. Out with Sprout was born from a desire to share those findings with others and enjoy new adventures together along the way.
