I was the designated photographer for last Friday's sold out Hands-on-Habitat where we got the chance to learn about animals that live in or near the water.

The kids and the parents were having so much fun free playing at the different stations that Lindsay and the awesome staff at Fontenelle Forest had set up. Cutting and pasting activities, stamps, felt boards, matching games, and storybooks were set up to explore Our Pond Pals. The main attraction for the kids was getting to look at the snakes and toad and getting to touch Benedick the Turtle. I'm not sure how the parents felt about the snakes :)

I wanted to meet some of the wonderful participants at Hands-on-Habitat, so I interviewed three individuals and asked them a little about themselves. Without furtherado, I'd like to introduce you to Rob, Lily and Benedick the Turtle.

How old are you?

3 - and a character.

What's your favorite animal?

Beaver. - I thought that was a really unique favorite animal. I didn't even see any beavers there.

What was your favorite activity today?

Playing with the ducks. - He could have been referring to the ducks on the felt board or there were rubber ducks to play with in a container of water outside. His grandma and I weren't sure.

Who brought you to the Forest?

Grandma. - Yay for playdates with grandma!

What else are you going to do today?

Go to lunch, but it's a surprise.

What's your favorite food?

It's a secret. - He is a very good secret keeper.

Who's your favorite superhero?

Spiderman. - Don't let the Batman shirt fool ya; he's all about Spiderman.

How old are you?

1 - and adorable.

What's your favorite animal?

The snake - *shudders* I'm still not a fan of snakes.

What was your favorite activity today?

Going down the slide again and again. - She never seemed to get tired of going down the slide again and again.

Who brought you to the Forest?

Mom - She helped answer these questions. Thanks mom!

What else are you going to do today?

Dye Easter eggs! - I was jealous. I haven't done that in a long time!

What's your favorite food?

Spaghetti - yum!

Who's your favorite cartoon character?

Mickey Mouse - It's hard to not love the Mouse.

I asked Lindsay for some help with Benedick's answers as I don't speak turtle. Benedick was named after the character from Much Ado About Nothing, and his female friend is named Beatrice also from Much Ado About Nothing.

How old are you?

About 35 - He doesn't look a day over 21.

What's your favorite thing to do?

Digging in the soil - I don't like it when the dirt gets under my nails.

What are you going to do today?

Eat some worms, hang out in the water, and nap for awhile. - What a life :)

What's your favorite food?

Earthworms or apples - a balanced diet.

How did you feel about being touched by all the kids today?

Ehh... I was tolerant of it, I suppose. It happens about once a week, so it's not a big deal anymore. - What a good sport.

We hope you can join us at the next Hands-on-Habitat on May 16th where we'll learn how to make a flower. The forest should be in full bloom, and it's going be a great chance to check out the trails! I'm sure I'll be back to take pictures.
