Halloween candy leftovers involves one of three scenarios:

1. What leftovers? The kids have devoured the treasure by November 1st.

2. Mom and Dad take part in the feast ending in groans of "why, did I eat that last chocolate pumpkin!?"

3. Or your whole family has a lot of self-discipline, and the candy gets buried in the back of a cabinet to be discovered next year.

But what if there was way to trade in those excess calories and extra cabinet space to let our military enjoy the Halloween treats too? Halloween Candy Buyback has been doing that for the last several years. The group partners with dentists all over the country to "buy" back candy with cash, coupons, tooth brushes or other items, and the dentists send candy to Operation Gratitude or other military support groups.

Below is a list of Omaha locations from the Halloween Candy Buyback website, but PLEASE call before going to these dentists to ensure that they are still participating or call your own dentist to see if they have a similar program.

Here's to putting a smile on the troops faces and saving some calories for November and December!
