One of my New Year's resolutions was to be more intentional each day about making one on one time for each child for preschool. We do a lot of guided sensory play and free play already, but I wanted to add a bit more structure in to our routine. One of the things that has been working well for us is the introduction of "tot trays." The simple explanation is that I set up a learning focused activity on a tray and the kids each work on their own tray while I supervise. For a more thorough explanation, check out 1+1+1+1's article on the basics of tot trays.
Having two children of different ages can be intimidating when beginning to think about pre-schooling at home, I know it was for me, but the trays make it so simple! I usually prep four each evening after they go to bed, and they they each have two to do in the morning. Sometimes I set up a toy we already own, and other times I make up an activity or find something creative on Pinterest for us to do. I'll be sharing some of our more unique homemade trays as the year goes on, but I also wanted to include this list of 25+ toys that work well for tot trays in case you are looking for a jumping off point to begin your own tot school, don't have time to make your own trays, or are in the market for an educational toy.
