It's not just for moms anymore!

Back in college, I was pretty skeptical about the health benefits of doing yoga. I had not done a lot of research nor had I ever tried it before — so as a male in his 20's, I had some serious hesitations. But after attending a few classes, the benefits were obvious!

Yoga Benefits

Incorporating yoga poses into your regular schedule of exercise can have tremendous benefits for your physical well-being/health, including:

  • Increases in Strength
Yoga poses rely on your ability to control your body weight which can be demanding in all the right ways for your muscular development.
  • Increases in Flexibility
Yoga poses cause you stretch your muscles properly, also increasing your range of motion.
  • Increases in Muscular Endurance
Yoga tests your ability to stay active for longer, without breaking too much of a sweat.
  • Improved Breathing
Proper breathing is a big part of yoga. Breathing right helps you staying in control and retain "balance," not only physically but mentally too. Breathing right is essential to any exercise and is best done by taking big breaths through the nose and out the mouth.
  • Improved Balance
Yoga poses rely on your ability to stay in a fixed position for an extended period of time. Good core strength and proper breathing techniques can help.

Basic Yoga Sequence for You and Your Kids

Stormy and a few of the Lil Chasers met me at Werner Park to go through a basic yoga sequence workout. You and your kids can do this anywhere!

With little ones, remember to be patient. They may fall (a lot) and may get frustrated. But stay with it and the kiddos will do just as good, and maybe even better than you.

If you or your child encounters difficulty accomplishing these workouts, please don't hesitate to contact me in the comments below, and I will try my best to think of some alternatives!

Until next time, Stay Active!
