As we welcome the new year, many of us reflect on our lives and think about ways we want to improve or areas where we want to focus more attention. Some of us create New Year's Resolutions filled with ideas and goals for the coming year. For many, these goals often include exercise, organization, eating healthier, finishing a long-term goal, or just taking that difficult first step.

Last year, I discovered the wonderful idea of picking one word to be our focus for the year. I love this idea! It allows me to bring the word into everything I do, with my family, with my work, with my everyday life. I feel that this is doable, and something that I can focus on all year long.

In 2013, my word was Laughter. My focus was to allow laughter to fill my day, instead of always having a 'to-do' list running through my head.

For 2014, as I thought about what word I would like to focus on, the first word that popped into my head was

MOMENT.

Perfect, just what I needed, and it can apply to every aspect of my life.

My kids are growing up so fast, and so often I get busy with my tasks at hand, that I forget to enjoy the beautiful moment right before my eyes. Yes, those jobs still need to get done, but if my daughter is asking me to read her a story or my son wants help building the Lego set, they both are truly really asking just for a moment with me.

This is one resolution I know I can keep.

What word will be your focus for 2014?
