Do you have a child entering kindergarten, seventh grade or planning to participate in school sports?

If so, a school physical is required. For older children many schools offer group sports physicals at a discounted rate; however, at HealthWest Pediatrics we believe nothing beats a good visit and examination by your child's pediatrician.

We do a fair bit of traveling in the summer. Having one set for grandparents in Wisconsin and the other set in Texas has inspired quite a few road trips. When my older kids were small we didn't even have a DVD player in the car (OMG!), so I had a few tricks to keep them happy.

The month of August is staring me squarely in the eyes and all I can say is, "Whew! I've survived yet another summer." Yes, that's right, it's almost school time. We've had a good summer. We spent time at the pool, camps, a family vacation, suffered through some long, boring days, and in general, did the things that you think of when you have 10 weeks off from school. But I'm tired of having "fun" and that means it's time to get back to our regular routines.

Summertime means hamburgers and hotdogs, swimming and baseball, fireworks and parades. Summertime also means its family vacation time!

When I hear the words "family vacation" I envision Clark Griswold behind the wheel of the ole' Family Truckster. I can see him falling asleep behind the wheel; getting his hubcaps stolen in St. Louis; tying Dinky to the bumper and hauling poor dead Aunt Edna to her son's house on the way to Wally World.
