My Favorite Baby Items

There are tons of items you need (or want) for your baby, so it's important to weed out the gadgets and gizmos you may not need. Every parent is different in what they value and makes their life a little easier. This is a list of some of my favorites.

Aloha, I’m Brigette, and these two kinder are Aurora and Grayson. I blog over at Life Lesson Plans where I share some of the art, science and sensory play projects we do together.

We're a bit of a culturally blended family, we have roots in the US Midwest, our kids toddled in the Hawaiian surf, and we now live in the German countryside. With three distinct cultures in four years, it has been quite an adventure. I'm always surprised to hear my two year old babble in multiple languages, and my four year old reminisce about catching starfish!

As we welcome the new year, many of us reflect on our lives and think about ways we want to improve or areas where we want to focus more attention. Some of us create New Year's Resolutions filled with ideas and goals for the coming year. For many, these goals often include exercise, organization, eating healthier, finishing a long-term goal, or just taking that difficult first step.

I have never been a fan of long car drives. It probably has something to do with being the youngest of three and having to sit on the middle hump of the backseat of the car while my sisters leisurely stared out the window taking more than their fair share of space while I sat squished staring at the rearview mirror.

Another year is almost over. We are in the final push for reflecting on our year and thinking about the things that make us thankful. I wrote last year in my blog post The Little Things that being thankful for all the little things was more important than throwing something out there for the sake of something to say before eating Turkey. And I still believe that.

Fall. Ah, my absolute favorite time of the year. The kids are in school, the heat of the summer is finally slipping away, and there are all too many fun things to do.

I was making lunch for my younger son this morning when I was overcome by how many times I have done this over the course of the past eight years. My gosh, I’ve packed a lot of lunches! Probably close to 1600.

Kids are so different. My boys proclaim to really dislike school. In fact, my older one has gone as far as to say he hates it. It makes me crazy. Their grades don't come close to showing that they don't like school. The older one (for all of his moaning and groaning) has had almost a prefect report card for two years running, and the little one actually asked me a few weeks ago to print out some math sheets to work on before a long car trip.

Well, three months has gone by since I had my sweet baby Bastian and I am so filled with love. Becoming a mom has been harder and more rewarding then I could have imagined. All the books, classes, and advice could never have prepared me for what motherhood is truly like.

Oh man! Just when I was getting used to lax bed times, sleeping in, sitting in the sun for what seemed like endless hours, and the occasional moans about there being nothing to do, that mailman had to deliver a very solemn reminder that the countdown has officially begun.

The summer newsletter from school arrived in the mail on Monday complete with schedules, procedures, save the dates, and school supply lists. Talk about a wake up call.

By the time you read this, I will be in Arizona spending a long weekend with my parents and my sister and her family. This is not my vacation, it's simply the wrap-up to what proved to be the kind of vacation I think I'm going to take every year from now on.

"Mom, there's something wrong with Tippy. She's licking everything and she looks tired." My heart sank when my 12-year-old said these words to me.
