Weaning while pregnant?
I am 7 weeks pregnant and I am currently in the process of weaning my two year old toddler. My breasts are so sore and hard and they hurt really badly. What can I do to relieve this pain and not harm my pregnancy?

When you are weaning I would encourage you to try ice packing the breasts for 20 minutes every 2 hours. You may make up regular ice packs or use a bag of frozen vegetables.
I encourage you to take an anti-inflammatory like Motrin for inflammation and discomfort. There is evidence in research that also says you may take Sudafed for a few days to help with the volume and discomfort to slow the milk supply and help it dry up. I also encourage you not to let anything warm touch the breasts until they feel better as that will stimulate milk letdown and production. Hope all of that helps.Read more answers by Dr. Moore
