Can I breastfeed with inverted nipples?

I am in my third trimester and have made the decision to breastfeed my baby. However, I have inverted nipples. Will this affect me breastfeeding? Is there any solution or gadget that I can use prior to giving birth to help breastfeeding be successful?

Congratulations on your pregnancy - and the decision to breastfeed. Some women with inverted nipples can successfully breastfeed with the aid of a nipple shield. Inverted nipples still function. You may also be able to pump and feed the baby breastmilk.

To my knowledge, no device can or should be used prior to giving birth due to the risk of nipple stimulation from the device which may lead to hyperstimulation of the uterus.
