Is it safe to use another mother's milk from the milk depot?

Is it safe to use another mother’s milk from the milk depot? Under what circumstances would this be necessary?

The Milk Depot is not a place to get donor milk. It is a place that mother’s who are pumping may bring extra milk to be given to human milk banks where it is pasteurized for use.

Mothers have lab testing and fill out a series of questions and paperwork before they are eligible to bring milk to the depot.

Donor milk can be obtained from Human Milk Banks in Iowa City or Denver for a cost. Most NICU departments get donor milk for their premature infants.

Methodist Women's Hospital and Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital are milk donor drop off sites.
