What is a normal temp for a 4 year old?
My son always seems to have a temperature of 99.2 - 99.7F degrees on a daily basis.
He is 4 years old - can this be normal? Should I be concerned?

Yes! This can be very normal.
The "normal" 98.6 F (37 C) temperature is an oral temperature.
A temperature taken under the arm can be about 1 degree Fahrenheit lower and a temperature taken rectally tends to be about 1 degree Fahrenheit higher. Thus, a normal rectal temperature is closer to 99.6 F (37.5 C).
A child's body temperature also varies throughout the day. Temperatures tend to be the lowest in the morning and up to 1-2 degrees higher in the afternoon and evening hours.
Any temperature over 100.4 is considered a fever and may require further evaluation.
It is always ok to ask your doctor if there are concerns about your child's temperature, especially if he/she is more irritable, has decreased appetite, is not sleeping, is complaining of pain, or just isn't acting his or herself.Read more answers by Dr. LeGrand-Rozovics
