Dr. Oz recently featured Green Coffee Bean Extract on his show as a weight loss aid.  Starbucks also is offering green coffee bean extract in their skinnier drinks as well. With that being said, I do not recommend weight loss drugs/ medications/ supplements for children. The coffee bean extract is primarily caffeine.

I believe teens/tweens should focus on a healthy diet including fruits/vegetables/protein/dairy and exercise in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I will avoid use of extracts or 24 hour energy supplements in tweens/teens. If a teenager is interested in a green coffee bean drink, I believe moderation is the key. They should not be drinking such drinks daily as this is most likely replacing water or milk in their diet, which their body needs.

If a teen is interested in a coffee drink, avoiding a heavy calorie laden frappuccino, a green coffee bean drink would be a better choice. Caffeine and coffee drinks are not on the food pyramid, which should be our guide for raising healthy teenagers.
