What should I do if I have been exposed to the flu while pregnant?

I am in my second trimester and have been exposed to influenza A. I am in the "high-risk" pregnancy category due to high blood pressure. Should I take Tamiflu?

The flu is definitely going around so it is not difficult to find yourself in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with the flu. Hopefully you have had your flu shot, so that may be enough to protect you from catching the virus.

Generally I would advise, if exposure has been with close personal contact, that you take Tamiflu as a preventative measure. Tamiflu has been shown to shorten the duration of symptoms and lessen severity of symptoms if started within 48 hours of illness.

It is best to contact your health care provider to get his or her recommendations.
