What can I safely use to treat acne?

I am currently 16 weeks pregnant, and I was just wondering if benzoyl peroxide (2.5%) is safe to use during pregnancy?

Pregnancy causes increased blood flow and oil production. These sometimes cause the "rosy glow" pregnant women get, however, the increase in oil production can also bring on acne.

The topical benzoyl peroxide 2.5% solution is safe to use during pregnancy. Thank you for asking the question. Be careful during pregnancy to avoid the following:

  • The prescription antiacne drugs isotretinoin and tretinoin cause birth defects and should never be used during pregnancy.

  • Avoid abrasive scrubs or defoliants, as these can irritate sensitive skin.
