Week 39: Labor will soon begin!
After months of waiting expectantly, your labor may finally start this week, signaling the pending birth of your child. It’s natural to feel apprehensive about this process, especially if you’ve never had a baby before!
Signs that your labor is beginning can include:
- bloody show, a small amount of mucus and blood expelled from the vagina
- diarrhea or a loose bowel movement
- contractions occurring at intervals of less than 5 minutes
- amniotic fluid gushing or leaking from the vagina
If you experience any of these signs, contact your doctor or midwife.

Be prepared for your child's first ride home
Before you go to the hospital, be sure you are prepared to safely bring your new baby home in your car. Read about child safety seat installation and safety.
